Nick Bosa 2023-24 Profile

Nick Bosa — the 6 foot 4, 266 pound EDGE rusher for the San Francisco 49ers — has developed into one of the most terrifying defenders in all of football. His unique combination of size, athleticism and instincts makes him a major problem for any opposing offense. And even when teams do produce game plans specific to slowing Bosa down, he has proven time and time again that it isn’t possible to stop him entirely. What’s perhaps craziest of all is that Bosa likely still has many more seasons of elite production ahead of him — so long as he manages to remain healthy. And considering both his and the 49ers’ elite form so far this season, perhaps a Super Bowl is coming soon.

In this article, we’ll discuss Nick Bosa’s general information, his pre-NFL background, what he has accomplished in his NFL career thus far, and what we can expect to see from him in the 2024 playoffs.

Nick Bosa General Information

Nicholas John Bosa was born on October 23, 1997, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. His parents are John and Cheryl Bosa. John Bosa was a defensive end for the Miami Dolphins in the NFL. Nick also has an older brother, Joey, who is currently a standout defensive end for the San Diego Chargers.

Nick Bosa is currently dating Lauren Maenner, who is a professional model and influencer. The couple have seemingly been together since the summer of 2023.

On September 6, 2023, Bosa signed a five year, $170,000,000 contract extension with the San Francisco 49ers — making for an average annual salary of $34,000,000. Bosa’s net worth is estimated to be around $23 million.

Nick Bosa Background

Coming from a football family, Nick Bosa was destined to follow in his brother’s and father’s footsteps. Bosa attended St. Thomas Aquinas high school in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he was a multi-year, first-team all-state player. He also was a five-star recruit and was ranked among the best players in his class.

After his high school career ended, Nick Bosa committed to play college football at Ohio State University.

Bosa played in all 13 games as a true freshman at Ohio State in 2016, recording 29 tackles — 7 of which were for a loss, and 5 were sacks.

Bosa’s collegiate career took off during his sophomore season, when he became the starting defensive end for the Buckeyes. Bosa was named a unanimous First-Team All-Big Ten and the Smith-Brown Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year for his 32 total tackles (14.5 for a loss) and a team leading 7 sacks on the season. In addition to that, Bosa had 2 pass breakups, 8 quarterback hurries, and 1 blocked kick.

Bosa ended up only playing in 3 games during his junior season at Ohio State, due to a core injury which required surgery. In those 3 games, Bosa produced 3 sacks, 6 tackles for loss, and 14 combined total tackles.

After his junior season ended, Bosa declared for the 2019 NFL Draft. And after an extremely impressive pre-draft combine, Bosa was projected to be one of the very top picks of the entire draft (despite some off-field controversy, for his right-wing political beliefs and seeming alignment with multiple polarizing ideals.)

Yet, that didn’t stop the San Francisco 49ers from selecting Nick Bosa with the second overall pick (of the first round) in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Nick Bosa’s NFL Career So Far

Nick Bosa made his NFL debut in Week 1 of the 2019 season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he recorded 3 tackles and 1 sack. In Week 6 of the season, Bosa’s 3 sacks and 1 interception against the Carolina Panthers earned him NFC Defensive Player of the Week — which came during the same week that his brother, Joey, earned the AFC Defensive Player of the Week award. The next day, Nick Bosa was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Month for October.

Bosa finished his rookie year with 47 tackles, 9 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 2 fumble recoveries, 2 pass deflections, and 1 interception in 16 games and 14 starts. The 49ers went 13-3 during the regular season, and advanced all the way to the Super Bowl, where they played the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite Bosa recording a strip sack on Patrick Mahomes, the 49ers lost the Super Bowl by a score of 31-20.

That strip sack was 1 of 4 sacks Bosa produced in the playoffs. At season’s end, Bosa won the AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award, was on the All-Rookie First Team, and was named to the Pro Bowl.

Unfortunately, Nick Bosa tore his ACL in Week 2 of the 2020 regular season, and would miss the remainder of that season. He recorded 6 tackles and produced 1 forced fumble in the season.

Bosa returned at full health for the start of the 2021 season. In the game, Bosa had 4 solo tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and sacked Jared Goff, the Detroit Lions quarterback, once. Bosa finished the season with 15.5 sacks, the fourth most in the league, and his 21 tackles for loss were tied for the league lead with fellow EDGE rusher T.J. Watt. Bosa was named to the Pro Bowl for the second time of his career after the season.

In 3 playoff games that season, Bosa recorded 1 forced fumble, 4 sacks, and 2 tackles for loss.

In 2022, Bosa produced one of the best defensive seasons the NFL has seen in some time. He won NFC Defensive Player of the Month in November, and won two NFC Defensive Player of the Week awards. Bosa finished the regular season leading the league in sacks during the regular season, recording 18.5. He also had 19 tackles for loss, and 51 total tackles.

At season’s end, Bosa was named the 2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, and earned First-Team All-Pro honors for the first time.

In 3 playoff games, Bosa recovered 1 fumble, had 11 total tackles, and produced 4 tackles for loss.

So far in the 2023 NFL season, Bosa has 52 total tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, 4 pass deflections, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery. The 49ers are currently 12-4 on the season.

Nick Bosa 2024 Playoff Forecast

Even though Nick Bosa is still just 26 years old, he has accomplished just about everything there is to accomplish in one’s NFL career; aside, of course, from winning a Super Bowl. Yet, considering how good both Bosa and the entire 49ers team looks so far this season, they appear to be favorites to win the Super Bowl that will take place in February 2024. What’s for certain is that, so long as Bosa remains healthy, he will continue to be a game wrecker for opposing offenses and give the 49ers an excellent chance to win every game they play in.
